Winter Turns To Spring

It is the beginning of Spring here and the wonder & excitement it brings.  It’s been a long Winter.  We say that this time of year every year.  But every year we make it through.   Soon the trees will be budding, the flowers blooming, the birds singing.  Isn’t that similar to the journey a Child Sexual Abuse victim must go through?

winterIn the early stages of healing, we enter that season of Winter.  Cold, lonely, dark, long period of time where we “hibernate” within ourselves to understand ourselves and meet “Old Man Winter”.  We learn to BE us, LIKE us, DISCOVER us.  Quiet moments of reflection during this time reveal things we forgot or don’t wish to acknowledge.  We listen to the silence again and again. Hoping to discover our true voice.  Painful images, painful sounds and even smells come rushing, flooding our very being.  Will we survive?  Can we survive?

Spring But then, after all the reflection, listening to how we feel, learning why we feel; We discover that it is okay to feel.  We are safe, we are secure, and then Spring comes.  What a joy that is!  We made it!  Everything is fresh, clean, and new again.  Life is beginning.  Out with the old, in with the new as we say on New Year’s Eve.  Can you feel it?  It’s there.  Place your hand out and grasp the new life you are holding.  Doesn’t it feel great? Ah Spring!  The next journey.

I’m writing this as a reminder to me and others – There is Life after all the pain we’ve endured as victims of Child Sexual Abuse.  Just by searching for blogs like mine, reading other stories, joining online support groups, we are all coming through our darkest, coldest, longest of Winters.  We’ve done the work accepting our abuse.  Now’s the time to embrace our next journey, Spring.  Now's the time to love ourselves and tell our stories, do the work on helping & supporting other victims.  Now's the time to stop holding our breath and BREATHE.  Now's the time to get active about making a difference in the lives of our fellow Survivors.

God bless you as you continue your journey.

The storm has passed. See the rainbow?
It’s beautiful. Life is beautiful.
And you are beautiful too.
