A Survivor’s 4th of July
As we, Americans, prepare to celebrate our 4th of
July and our heritage of freedom, I think it’s important to take a look at
FREEDOM and what that means.
The
American Bill of Rights (simplest of terms)
·
Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly,
and petition
·
Right to keep and bear arms in order to maintain
a well regulated militia
·
Freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures
·
Right to due process of law, freedom from
self-incrimination, double jeopardy
·
Rights of accused persons, e.g., right to a
speedy and public trial
·
Right of trial by jury in civil cases
·
Freedom from excessive bail, cruel and unusual
punishments
·
Just because these rights are listed in the
Constitution doesn't mean that you don't have other rights too
·
Anything that the Constitution doesn't say that
Congress can do should be left up to the states, or to the people
These rights are very important
to us. We will fight tooth & nail to protect them. But what about the Proud Survivor and our Freedom & Rights. Now, I’m not going to get into the debate of how Survivors & victims are treated. That is another separate topic. I’m talking about the “Celebration & Freedom” from our abuse(ers). Boy, what a wonderful day it is!! Here is my rendition of
The Survivor's Bill of Rights
·
Freedom from our abuser
·
Freedom from verbal, emotional, & physical
abuse
·
Freedom from fear, shame, guilt, &
re-victimization by ourselves and by others BECAUSE of our abuse
·
Freedom to speak about our abuse
·
Freedom to live a happy & fulfilled life
What a
great and glorious day it is – Our Independence Day. A day to celebrate all the freedoms &
rights we, Survivors, share and work to protect for others. Let the bands parade down our Main
Streets & ring tributes to all the Victims and Survivors of Abuse. Let the eyes of wonder and amazement stare at
the round of fireworks in our honor. We
are free and we have rights.
Let us celebrate together
Let us celebrate together
1.
The steps it took us to get where we are today
2.
The people in our lives who have helped us
3.
The future that is so bright and waiting for us
4.
The beauty and strength inside each & every one of us to help other
victims become Survivors
May you always remember
You are important, you are beautiful and
YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!!
LET FREEDOM RING FOR ALL VICTIMS OF VERBAL,
EMOTIONAL, SEXUAL, AND OTHER PHYSICAL ABUSES!!!
Please add to my list of Proud Survivor’s Bill of Rights.
Would love to hear from you.
The storm has passed. See the rainbow?
It’s beautiful. Life is beautiful.
And you are beautiful too.
